Perform Better, Recover Faster

Our Sports Massage is specifically designed for athletes, sports enthusiasts, and anyone who is regularly active. Through the skilled application of targeted techniques, including stretching and range-of-motion movements, we help you achieve your performance and recovery goals.

The Treatment – Clinical Assessment Driven

Unlike a standard sports massage, our treatment begins with a brief functional assessment to identify specific soft tissue restrictions, postural imbalances, and any limited range of motion. This allows us to move beyond general soreness and focus precisely on the muscles and tendons contributing to decreased performance or chronic pain. Our massage therapists combine a deep knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and injury pathology with skilled assessment techniques to ensure you get the most effective treatment possible.

Who Is This Treament Suitable For?

Our Sports Massage services cover three main areas:

  • INJURY CARE – This is a rehabilitative and clinically focused massage, designed to treat and aid the recovery of soft tissue injuries.
  • EVENT SUPPORT (PRE, DURING, AND POST-EVENT) – Event massages support your preparation before a competition, helps maintain readiness during multi-day events, and speeds up your recovery after competition. This treatment is about optimising your performance and supporting you to bouncing back faster.
  • TRAINING AND MAINTENANCE – Used during your regular training cycles, this massage helps enhance recovery, improve flexibility and range of motion, and addresses muscle imbalance that can lead to overuse injuries. It’s the proactive way to keep your body in peak condition.

Targeted Sports Massage For Your Active Lifestyle

At Knot Away Clinic, we know every sport impacts differently on the body, that’s why our Sports Massage techniques are tailored specifically to your activity, ensuring you get the best results for both recovery and performance.

  • For Runner: whether you’re hitting the pavement or the trails, we focus on your entire lower body—including the calves, thighs, and hips. Our goal is to relieve tension, improve your flexibility, and reduce the risk of common overuse injuries.
  • For Swimmers: we target your upper body, with a special focus on the back, shoulders, and neck. This helps increase the crucial flexibility and range of motion in your shoulder joints, essential for powerful, efficient strokes.
  • For Cyclists: your legs, hips, and lower back bear the brunt of every ride. We work specifically on these areas to release the deep tension that builds up from being in a seated position for hours on end, helping you feel lighter and more powerful on the bike.
  • For other sports from tennis to football and basketball, we adapt our techniques to their physical demands.

COMMITMENT TO PERFORMANCE: for optimal results, particularly for injury care and training and maintenance, we recommend incorporating Sports Massage as a regular, strategic part of your active routine to proactively prevent breakdowns and ensure consistent peak performance.

Key Benefits

  • Improves flexibility and neuromuscular balance.
  • Reduces the risk of overuse injuries.
  • Manages muscle compensation: we target muscles that are overworking (compensating) due to weakness. or injury in other areas, correcting the underlying movement pattern.
  • Releases the dense fascial layers surrounding muscles, which often restrict movement more than the muscle itself.
  • Reduces muscle soreness and pain.
  • Aids in the rehabilitation of soft tissue injuries,

Frequently asked questions

Have questions about how Sports Massage can help you? Here are some of the most common queries from our active clients.

Not at all. Sports Massage is beneficial for anyone with an active lifestyle, regardless of their level. Whether you walk, run, play a team sport, or hit the gym, this therapy can help your body function and feel its best.

While Sports Massage often uses deep tissue techniques, its focus is different. It’s specifically tailored to the athlete’s body and sport, often incorporating stretching and targeting muscle groups that are overused in a particular activity. The goal is always performance and recovery.

We generally don’t recommend a deep massage on the day of a major event. A ‘pre-event’ massage is best performed 24-48 hours beforehand to stimulate the muscles. A ‘post-event’ recovery massage can be done anywhere from a few hours to a day or two after.

Yes, it is a key part of injury rehabilitation. After a proper diagnosis, your therapist can use specific techniques to reduce scar tissue, improve circulation to the injured area, and restore range of motion, helping you get back to your sport more safely and quickly.

Yes. When performed by a qualified Remedial Massage Therapist, a Sports Massage session is typically classified as a remedial treatment. Therefore, it is claimable with most major Australian private health funds. We will provide a receipt for your claim.
