Unlock Your Hips, Restore Your Balance

Our Groin & Hip Reset treatment is structured to comprehensively manage your tension and pain, focusing on the primary muscle groups associated with groin and hip discomfort.

This therapeutic treatment is ideal for clients experiencing:

  • Chronic groin pain (often diagnosed as groin strain) caused by tightness in the adductor muscles and pubic bone area.
  • Deep, stubborn lower back discomfort linked to tight hip flexors.
  • Restricted range of motion, especially in the hip, due to muscle and fascial restrictions.
  • Pain and stiffness resulting from prolonged sitting or intense sports.
  • Muscle knots and scar tissue in the inner thigh and pelvic area.
  • Functional instability from a recurrent strain or feeling of “weakness” despite stretching.

Key Target Muscle Groups:

We focus on releasing deep restrictions in the following major muscle groups:

  • Adductor Group (Inner Thigh) – these muscles are responsible for hip adduction (bringing the leg in). When strained they cause chronic pain in the inner thigh and pubic bone area. Releasing the adductor muscles restores pelvic alignment and mobility and reduces pain.
  • Hip Flexor Group – this includes the psoas major and iliacus (collectively Iliopsoas). These are the deepest core muscles, which can become tight from prolonged sitting or sports, leading to deep groin pain and lower back discomfort. Releasing the Iliopsoas corrects anterior pelvic tilt and reduces chronic pain.
  • Stabiliser/Assistive Muscle – the pectineus is a small muscle assisting in hip adduction and flexion, commonly involved in tension patterns with the adductors.

The Treatment Protocol – A Clinically Focused Approach.

Our session is structured into four targeted phases using advanced manual therapy techniques:

Phase 1: Warm-up & Assessment

  • The session begins with light circular stroking and the application of heat to the adductors. This process increases blood flow and prepares the muscles for deeper work, effectively reducing muscle guarding.

Phase 2: Deep Adductor Release

  • The therapist applies slow, deep pressure along the length of the muscle and then friction techniques across the muscle, particularly at the adductor longus attachment to the pubic bone. This phase breaks down muscle knots and scar tissue in the adductor and pectineus groups, restoring muscle length and flexibility.

Phase 3: Deep Core & Flexor Work

  • This involves the releasing of the Iliopsoas, working through the lower and lateral abdomen to alleviate strain on the pelvis and lower back, addressing a common root cause of groin pain.

Phase 4: Mobility & Integration

We conclude with functional stretching. This involves massaging the muscles while moving the hip joint to restore the full range of motion, particularly the hip abduction, which is often restricted, ensuring stability in the newly achieved range.

MASSAGE PRESSURE LEVEL: Medium to firm pressure, adjusted based on the density of the deep tissue and your comfort level.

Frequently asked questions

This is a specialized treatment, and the name can bring up questions. We want you to feel 100% informed and comfortable.

This is a 100% clinical and non-sexual therapy. The “groin” refers to the adductor muscle group, located on your inner thigh. These muscles attach high up on the pelvic bone and are a major, often-overlooked source of hip and lower back pain. Your therapist is a trained professional who will only work on this area with your explicit consent to address a specific clinical need.

Your privacy and comfort are our top priority. We use secure draping techniques at all times. This is why we also recommend wearing shorts, as it provides an extra layer of comfort and security for you while allowing the therapist to perform the necessary work.

You will likely feel “therapeutic discomfort” as we work on very tight, deep, and often sensitive muscles. It’s often described as a “good pain” or a deep releasing sensation. We will always work within your personal tolerance and communicate with you constantly.

This is a type of Remedial Massage, but it is highly specialized. Instead of a general treatment, this session is dedicated only to the complex structures of the hip girdle. This singular focus allows us to go deeper and be more systematic in unlocking this one critical area.

Because in many, many cases, lower back pain is a symptom of tight hips. Your hip flexors (in the front) and glutes (in the back) all attach to your pelvis. When they are tight, they pull your pelvis out of alignment, which puts a huge strain on your lower back. By ‘resetting’ the hips, we often resolve the back pain.
