KST (Kae-Sen Technique) is a specific modality of traditional Thai bodywork. ‘Kae-Sen’ translates to ‘unblocking the lines.’ It’s a non-oil therapy that uses precise, targeted pressure to clear stubborn blockages along the ‘Sen’ (energy lines) of the body, which is what makes it so effective for deep neck tension.

This is a deep and intensive treatment, so you will feel firm, targeted pressure which can create ‘therapeutic discomfort.’ However, it should never be unbearably painful. Your therapist is an expert at working within your tolerance to achieve the best release.

The main difference is the methodology. A Remedial Massage is a Western clinical approach that manipulates muscles and fascia. The KST Method is a traditional Thai approach that works on clearing ‘Sen’ lines. KST is performed without oil, over your clothes, and uses very specific, rhythmic thumb-pressing techniques.

While the primary focus is the neck, the therapist also works on the upper back, shoulders, and scalp, as these areas all contribute to neck tension and headaches. A full session is needed to properly address all the related lines, ensuring a complete and lasting release.
