CLINICAL MECHANISMS AND SYMPTOM-SPECIFIC MANAGEMENT

This service is designed for anyone who requires special accommodations or a modified approach to receive a massage safely and comfortably. This includes, but is not limited to, individuals with: Symptom-Specific Management:

  • For clients with Cerebral Palsy- we focus on spasticity management and improved range of motion. This is achieved through gentle, slow massage, rhythmic mobilization and slow stretches to relax tight muscles, reduce discomfort, and prevent contractures.
  • For clients with Multiple Sclerosis - we focus on pain relief and reducing fatigue. Gentle relaxation massage or remedial massage centring on circulation and trigger points, can relieve muscle tension from gait changes and improve sleep quality.
  • For those with a Spinal Cord Injury - the focus is on pain management and circulation stimulation. The treatment assists with pain management from overuse in mobile parts of the body and stimulates circulation in non-mobile areas to prevent pressure sores and swelling.
  • For individuals with Muscular Dystrophy - the goal of this therapy is to maintain flexibility and provide pain management. Very gentle massage is used to keep muscles pliable for as long as possible and manage aches and pains resulting from muscle weakness and compensatory movements.
  • In cases of Loss of Limbs - this treatment helps to manage stump pain and phantom limb pain. Deep tissue therapy around the stump area is used to soften tissue and assist in reducing neuropathic pain or phantom limb pain.

Neurological and Functional Restoration

Neurological and Functional Restoration Beyond condition-specific protocols, our approach includes: Sensory Integration Focus - we use sustained pressure and deep touch to help enhance body awareness and neurological stability. • Fascial Mobilisation - gentle techniques are applied to address myofascial restrictions that limit movement and affect overall posture. • Pain Cycle Disruption - rhythmic application of pressure effectively stimulates mechanoreceptors, helping to disrupt the pain cycle and promote sustained neurological relief.

Frequently asked questions

Is massage safe for my specific condition?

In most cases, yes, but it must be adapted. Our qualified therapists are trained to understand contraindications and modify the treatment to be safe and beneficial. We will always work within the scope of your comfort and safety and may ask for clearance from your GP if necessary.

Can my support person or caregiver stay in the room?

Absolutely. We want you to feel 100% comfortable. Your support person is welcome to stay in the treatment room throughout the entire session.

What if I can't lie flat on a massage table?

That is not a problem. We can perform the massage in whatever position is safest and most comfortable for you. This can include a semi-reclined position on the table, a side-lying position, or even while you remain seated in your wheelchair.

Are your therapists specifically trained for this?

Yes. Our remedial therapists are qualified professionals trained in anatomy and pathology. They understand how to modify techniques, pressure, and positioning to safely manage a wide variety of health conditions, ensuring your well-being is the top priority.

What are the potential benefits?

The benefits are both physical and mental. Adapted massage can be highly effective for managing pain, reducing muscle stiffness or spasticity, improving circulation, and decreasing anxiety. It provides a powerful sense of comfort, connection, and relaxation.
